This gym is a joke, their equipment looks like but always broken. Also, I am moving out of state and have tried 5 times to get our memberships cancelled and no one can seem to help. I have emailed the black hole they told me to and have called the local place 3 times. so I had to call my bank and request a stop payment for the charges as we are on a monthly contract. During this management refused to pick up my call or return my calls. Very unprofessional and would highly recommend not joining here. They clearly only care about your money. HORRIBLE SERVICE

Athens Club has terrible management

Over the last several months the Omni gym has become increasingly dirty, including the machines and the changing rooms. Everything is breaking down, such as the washing machines and the televisions and not getting fixed. Things break, that's normal, but the management refuses to provide answers to questions and seems to enjoy insulting the guests. Curtis, the main manager is especially arrogant, and that seems to give license to others. There are alot of people walking around not very engaged at doing anything, that are employed. There seems to be a downward trend. Hopefully ownership will make some changes so it becomes a better, more consumer responsive business.

Absolute Snakes When it Comes to Money

First off, I will say that the Omni is a very nice gym with great equipment and quality trainers. They also have an indoor Smoothie King which is great for after-workout nutrition. HOWEVER, and that's a BIG however, the billing policies of this place are an absolute NIGHTMARE. I'll go ahead and explain my personal situation to the best of my abilities. I have been at the University of Georgia for 4 and a half years and signed up for the Omni September 2013, and graduated December 2013. Now when I signed up for the $20/month year-long contract, I made SURE that it was possible to cancel my membership when I graduated without incurring fees. The representative assured me that was the case and it would be an easy process. Bold-faced lie. In order to successfully cancel your membership due to graduation, you need to show at least 3 of these: a copy of your diploma (which doesn't arrive until several months after graduation), a copy of a one way plane ticket, proof of residential change, a transcript, and several other incredibly hard to come by documents. Needless to say, I wasn't able to terminate my contract due to graduation... The other absolutely deceitful billing policy that I just experienced took place after I got off the phone trying to cancel my membership. The financial representative explained to me that I am also required to pay a $60 "GYM IMPROVEMENT FEE"... After I asked about the charge, she simply said that the representative should have explained this to me when I signed up. He did not. Needless to say, I'm stuck paying my membership fee along with the ridiculous gym improvement fee even though I've graduated and moved out of the city. The fact that the representatives assured me that canceling due to graduation would be an easy and painless experience is an absolute sham. So much for being nice to recent graduates... In summary, the Omni has very nice facilities but I would only recommend signing up if you've got money to blow and to THOROUGHLY go over the contract if you decide to sign up. Honestly, just stick to Ramsey (the UGA gym). It's one of the nicest gyms in the country and it's free if you're a student...

Management Does Not Care

It is hot outside, but even hotter inside they club and they refuse to put air conditioning on--they won't even turn on circulating fans--I was told that the owners are trying to save money and are not putting on the air conditioning. The temperature today was 76 degrees inside the gym and they refuse to turn on air or fans. The treadmills have built in TVs and most of them have defective audio--they don't get them fixed. I've asked if they could have closed captioning turned on so if you can't hear, you can at least read the TVs on the machines--they won't do anything to remedy requests because they don't care and worse they are rude and defensive and have an excuse for everything--they don't even attempt to hide their rudeness. They are the worst gym I've ever belonged to and I've been a member of gyms since the early 1980s--before gyms got all the bells and whistles.

Membership raised. hidden cost. week yanked back

I joined Omni when it first opened for 2 yrs., when I tried to renew; the price had doubled. Went elsewhere for 3 + yrs. Got a call to join on a special and told the girl I would join, but I had to give a month's notice at my gym and she offered me a 2 wk. pass. first time there; I was told I could only have a 1 wk. pass. POOR PR. I didn't go back. Got mail.. $10 mo. no contract. went in (because they can't tell secrets by phone). $199. start up fee. Goodbye Omni

Still charging me after contract is over!!

I had a contract with OMNI. I joined under a special they were running for educators.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I was unable to continue to attend the gym. I tried to cancel the contract explaining my situation and was not allowed to cancel. Fine. That is the definition of contract.

However, after the contract ended, I called to make sure I would not continue to be charged. I was told that I would have to stop the payments in person even though my contract had ended. I did this in the summer of 2012. However, the payments were continuoulsy pulled.

I went back into the gym months later, and went through the whole process again. OMNI could not find a the previous cancellation and unfortunately, neither could I. I remained calm and decided again to assume some responsibility since I could not locate my copy of the cancellation. They assured me that the payments would stop but that it may take 30 days.

So when the next payment was withdrawn, I did not panic. However, they just pulled another payment from my account!! I just called OMNI and noone can find my papers even though I gave the the date that I was there to cancel for the 2nd time. If that was not bad enough, the worker on the phone was very rude.

I assume she is tired of dealing with the same complaint and it is not her fault. I would have been satisfied just for the payments to stop. Although it is not a lot of money, I will now seek to get a refund for all of the months after my contract ended just to make a point.

I wonder how many people are donating money to OMNI gym. What a way to make a profit!!!

Unhealthy Conditions at Omni Fitness

As a member of Omni fitness in Mobile, I'm very disappointed in the unhealthy conditions I encounter in this facility each visit. When I first started it was very clean, vacuumed, and smelled nice. Now, it's dirty, unorganized, the men's lockers smell like urine any time of the day. On a different note, the gym only has a rock n roll tape, which is horrible. I's not a diverse atmosphere at all, and there is a sad sense that there is more taking place on the administration side of things than what is visibly noticeable. I can't see me being a member much longer.

Grown men toddler nursery restroom

Many parents are concerned that grown men are using the nursery day care restroom. The employees including manager are doing this while children are in the nursery. This does not makes sense when there is a locker room. It is also highly inappropriate and would not be allowed in similar settings. The nursery attendants said they have asked for this not to happen due to parental complaints but the manager is among employees participating. I have taken pictures of this and plan to send to their registered agent Jay Kaplan and corporate office. Pro fit management LLC. Otherwise decent place

Yelled at in front of everyone by manager

OMNI HEALTH & FITNESS MOBILE, AL

A year or so later after working out under my dad's membership at this gym, I received a promotion in the mail stating that I could get 3 months free and then sign up. I went and spoke with the manager about taking advantage of this deal. I was told I could do this but it would end up being more expensive, and that I really shouldn't be able to do it since I did work out under my dad's membership. A month later, I made an appointment with an assistant manager to discuss and agree upon a monthly rate so that I could sign up. He wrote down my information and said he would call me when his quota was due and then maybe I could sign up for $20 a month. Until then, he nicely placed me on a temporary membership. I did not ask him to do this. A few weeks go by, and I never used my temporary membership nor did I hear from him. I decide to go up there and ask if I was still in the system. I explained to the girl of my intentions of signing up and how the free pass was issued until my monthly rate could be offered. She said that the guy I spoke to failed to put me in the computer and told me that she was giving me a month free. I was so excited about this amazing customer service. Once again, I did not ask for this. I didn't use the trial membership right away, and started using it less than 2 weeks ago and was going every other day. My pass was supposed to be up on the 15th of December. After my exercise class the other night, I went up front to cancel a personal training session. The girl at the desk, who was also the girl who let me in an hour and a half earlier with no problem, informed me that I'm not supposed to have a pass. This shocked me as I planned on being there bright and early the next day and was confused as to why I wasn't allowed. She explained that because I have worked out with them before that I can't have any passes. She was very rude about this and I felt her condescending attitude was aimed to make me feel like I'm riding on these free passes. I explained the situations that happened before this and why I was given a pass in the first place. I expressed my frustration to her on how this is horrible customer service and that the associates all need to be on the same page with things because now I'm losing my pass because someone supposedly didn't do their job right. I did not yell nor did I curse at her. I leave the desk and rejoin my group of friends on the couch only feet away. She calls the manager and tells him I cursed her out. That is a lie and I have witnesses. He proceeds to call my friend who I was working out with and apparently gives her an earful. His phone call is how I was made aware of her lie. Not even 10 minutes after this, a guy shows up out of nowhere. He walks up to me and my group of girls on the couch and says "My ears are burning." in a very rude tone. I then ask my friend if that was him as it has been awhile since I've seen him. She says yes, that is Derek, the manager. I told him that I wanted to clear up that I did not curse at his associate. Before I could even finish my statement, he starts yelling at me in front of everyone. I was in disbelief. He said I went behind his back and was asking his associates for free passes when he said I could never have one. This is all untrue. He did not even give me a chance to explain my side of the story. And when I finally interjected through his angry yelling and was able to explain, he said that what I'm saying makes no sense and dismissed it completely. He continues yelling and I stay composed and classy through the whole thing. He gets the last word and storms off to the computer to more than likely delete me from his system.

I have never been so publicly humiliated in my entire life. I was accused of "cheating the system", embarrassed and belittled in front of my friends who I was sitting with, other employees and gym members who were walking in and out of the gym.

I am not trying to scam this gym and had every intention of signing up when I went in months ago, but the assistant manager offered me the trial membership until he called me back with a rate. How am I supposed to know he was not to do that? And now I got yelled at and will not be joining a gym that I enjoyed attending before this point. I have worked in a managerial and customer service based position for more than 10 years. I do not believe such a rude, unprofessional hot head should be managing a gym, much less working in customer service at all.

Please do not join this gym until Derek is out of this position.

Yes that *** needs to go that gym will be a better place

Guest

So how much did you pay and how long did you work out, I'm a paying member and it looks to me like you just worked out free for a few months, I'd be pissed if I was Derek to

Guest

I am a member and have been for 2 years. Derek has always been very low key.

He manages a difficult situation.... this large gym has all types of people, some are rough and crude. If he raises his voice, it is because someone is not cooperating !!!!

This gym steals peoples money. I know this because I worked there.

Derek doesn't cancel people out when they sign the cancellation form because he wants to keep hitting their account for the monthly payment until they catch on. He also steals commission from his employees. The $10 month to month is a joke, its $200 to sign up. The equipment is always broke, and it takes Derek months to get it fixed where at other gyms it may be down for a day if that.

The only reason for this is because the gym is flat broke. They can barely pay rent and the landlord already has a future plan for the building so Omni will not be there too much longer. Omni is in court trying to fight against the landlord because he is trying to raise the rent. If he succeeds which he will, Omni will be closed.

And if you do sign up, and they close down, you will not get canceled out nor will you get a refund if you paid in full. I find it very unprofessional that Derek had to get on here and respond to a review about him. That there makes him look guilty. I've talked with a lot of disgruntled customers from Omni who are going to other gyms now and the most common reason for them leaving was Derek and how he has let the gym go into such bad shape.

I didn't agree with how things were ran at Omni. Derek would go in the massage room and make a female worker give him a massage while he was on the clock. He don't return any phone calls. The trainers are great.

Kelly, John are two of the best around Mobile. Other than that, don't waste your time joining Omni.

You will leave unhappy.

While I appreciate you taking the time to post a comment about the facility Josh I wish you would have been honest with people. This individual is a former employee who was released from employment by Omni.

He is very disgruntled and upset due to the termination. I wish him well but everything he has posted is untrue.

Thank you, Derek Barefoot General manager.

General Manager my ***,who cares Omni gave your *** another chance they ran your *** out of Georgia right!!

Guest

Hi,

I just signed up for my membership this week and hopefully I have good results from it and my daughter will be in the childcare area. I loved the facility, but as for the management they were nice as well.

I hope to find out for myself whether they are truly the best and I'm hoping that they will all be fine. 8)

Guest

I have a 4 year old daughter in the nursery and I do check on her while she is in the child care. My use of the restroom in the child care is few and far between.

I am truly sad that people who have no knowledge of me or my family can say such horrible things about me. I do shave my head, I do have tattoos, I do not take steroids!! I am a former police officer and my workout partner is a current officer for the state of Alabama. I am a good person, a good husband, a good father, and a good manager.

The internet is a great resource for people but it also allows people to say whatever they want true or not with no recourse.

I am very approachable and kind to anyone who wants to take the time to talk to me. I invite anyone who commented on this site to come speak with me in person and you will see I am not the man described above.

Once OMNI CLUB Athens, GA TAKES YOUR MONEY, THEY WILL NOT RESPOND TO YOUR CONCERNS

I have been with Omni Club Athens, GA for several years. I am sad to say that once my contract is up this year I will not rejoin. Their trainers and facility are great. The management, however,is the worse I have ever experienced; and I have been a part of a fitness club (SE and NE regions) every year for the last 15 years.

I signed up for personal training and did not realize that these sessions needed to be completed in a very short period before expiring. One day I showed up for my session, I was told by my trainer "Your sessions expired, but don't worry about it,I renewed it." A few weeks later I went to schedule my personal training appt and I was told I can't, my sessions had expired. Apparently, they had changed the expiration date, but did not bother to inform me. I spoke with there fitness coordinator, Curtis by phone. He would not budge. He stated he will only open up those sessions if I sign up and pay for additional sessions. Hmmm, I should give you more of my money in order to use sessions I already paid for? I had no interest in doing that. I spoke with the manager, Don. He said he would contact the owner. A week later I did not hear from him. I spoke with him again, his response was he was waiting to hear from the owner. I called to get a copy of the contract. No one ever got back to me. Let's just say it's now been over 3 months and I have yet to hear from Don or Curtis or anyone from The Omni.

After sharing this story with others, many have voiced similar experience. They even refused to cancel the membership of someone who was diagnosed with cancer and getting chemo. Unthinkable!!

Now this week they have been calling me to renew my membership. It seems the only time this club is willing to speak to you is to get your money. Once they have your money. They have no interest in your experience.

Omni club as of June 2015 has taken away Om studio, most Pilates and most yoga classes. They have also taken away spin.

They say they will add spinning back but it will be an extra charge. There are few Zumba classes. The barr class they added costs $17 per class.

DO NOT BELIEVE what they tell you when you sign the contract. I will not be renewing.

People Bill set Chris up with the BP. These two guys are best friends.

They control the market. Look around on a Friday or Saturday night and you'll see them wabbling around drunk off their *** downtown. Funny and sick as ***, love them both. Always read the fine print!!!

I cant bash them, well, I could, but the dirt bags are my friends plus I work out at either at no cost. As for Curtis & Don....., good ppl, just bust their ***.

Guest

I was hit on by the staff multiple times and the manager even made a comment to me that was entirely too inappropriate. Fees are ridiculous.

I would suggest looking at other options. Gym is way too crowded at certain times. No matter how many times I said no when joining, they would come up with some way of trying to pressure me. HIGH PRESSURE.

It may look nice but Bodyplex is way better. I'm happy I switched!

Guest

The omni club has a great facility, but they have sleezy sales techniques and a rude/unethical sales manager. Why can't the ownership crack down.

It did not used to be this way and even the trainers/instructors complain.

The challenge is other clubs dont ahve the equipment. Omni - get some integrity!

Guest

uck yourself.

You are the owner of the local Gold's gym. Get a life, ***. :grin

Guest

Hands down the top facilities in Athens. Always have been, always will be. Highly recommend.

Guest

Dear Hilarious,

It's funny to me that because I have an opinion and continue to voice it that I must be apart of the competition. I'm sorry to disappoint you but I am just a regular Omni Club member.

I take the time out of my day to write on this blog because it will make a difference to those who take the time to do their research before joining a gym. No matter what everyone has to make their own choice and will eventually form their own opinions about this gym. On a positive note the trainers and class instructors are great, my main issue is with the omni sales tactic and sales people, they are the ones who you initially deal with and they are the ones who can make leave a sour taste in your mouth.

They have also worked out most of the kinks on the East side with is great, however the last thing that would be great is if they could have the east side have regular hours as the hours still are not the best. Anyways, hope who ever is reading this does their research and picks the gym that is best for them.

Guest

To Funny and LOL Iam a memeber of omni club and I have enjoyed the gym as well but I recently moved to another state due to the fact Iam in the military and was stationed here. Where I have moved to there are no omni clubs around. I called to cancel my membership and was asked not only to send proof of my residents and ID but I was told that I need to send a copy of my military orders as well to keep my membership from rolling over come september WTF?

Guest

Hey Angry Omni Member, get a life! It's just a gym, honestly how bad could the things you claim they did be?

Did they kidnap your child? Ruin your life? Get you fired from your job? Give you a life threatening illness?

And you take time out of your day to come here over and over and over to post comments no one is reading and won't stop a single person from patronizing this business.

You want people to believe you aren't involved with the competition or friends with the competition, come on. The Omni competitors have a history of engaging in this type of online stuff.

I am only a member at Omni Athens now because they do still have the best hours and equipment compared to the other dinky gyms around.

HOWEVER, perhaps you are unaware of the sleazy practices that can and DO go on at most gyms... Billing practices and conning you into contracts then refusing to let you out of them WILL make most sane working people go CRAZY.

Perhaps not you.

But having a gym refuse to stop charging your credit card and making you call third parties to dispute charges and send certified letters is NOT COOL.

AND while I"m here I might mention that as of today (Feb. 2013) the shower/sauna/steam facilities have severely gone down and Omni should be concerned about moldy ceilings making their customers sick - or at least grossed out.
